🐾 What is Kattaskráin?
Kattaskráin – The CATaloque is the world's first cat registry of its kind. Cats from all corners of Iceland are registered here — home cats, lost cats, found strays, and cats that have passed. Kattaskráin is a unique memorial and safety net for cat owners across the country.
The service is free and always will be. It is run by volunteers with love and conviction.
📅 History of Kattaskráin
Kattaskráin was founded in 2019 with the idea of giving cat owners in Iceland the opportunity to register their cats and make it easier to find lost ones.
The site grew faster than expected. Facebook groups for all postal codes emerged and the cat-lover community developed.
Major updates: new design, AI, map, push notifications, emergency fund and international system in preparation.
Kattaskráin opens to the public at kattaskrain.is – with payment system, sponsorship system and new opportunities for cat organisations in Iceland.

Guðmundur Þór Norðdahl
Guðmundur is the founder and operator of Kattaskráin. He is a cat lover by nature and has dedicated himself to this project for over 7 years. Kattaskráin is a heartfelt passion project he runs as a volunteer.

Free service
Registering cats is always free and always will be. We believe nothing should prevent a cat from being found.
Sponsorship
Kattaskráin strives to direct all donations to animal welfare organisations. 100% of donations go to good causes.
Artificial Intelligence
We use Voyage AI to analyse cat photos and find similar cats. This can help in searching for a lost cat.
Privacy
Owner kennitala numbers are never published. Owners control what information is visible on their cats' profiles.
🦸 Supporting animal welfare organisations
Kattaskráin strives to make its centralised information available to all animal welfare organisations, especially those working with cats. Veterinary clinics, cat lovers and police have used Kattaskráin to identify cats and help them find their way home.
Kattaskráin is a support tool for the true heroes — the individuals and organisations who rescue animals in need and care for them wholeheartedly. We do our utmost to direct donations to them and give them the visibility they deserve.
